I seem to like East much and it is no accident that my name is Eastlyn. I am from South East Asia. That is one East. Now I am in Australia which is located somewhere between South and South East on the World Map. Australia derived from a Latin word – Australis which means Southern. I am residing temporary on Australia South East Coast, Sydney (Another place with East). I am living in Sydney City – Central Business District. (The busyness of life where everything takes place). Today I took a bus to the Eastern Suburb. Before moving to the City, I was staying at Sydney Western Suburb. I did not really like it as it dry (no wind) and there was no big space to relax and unwind unlike to her comparison – Eastern Suburbs. The first time I went to Bondi (Eastern Suburb) I was deeply stirred and captivated with her beauty, the wind, the laid back lifestyle and etc. Ever since then, I take a bus frequently to the Eastern Suburbs – Bondi, Coogee, Maroubra,Randwick, Kingsford, Kensington, Bronte, Botany Bay, Clovelly, The Eastern Suburbs are home to some of the famous beaches namely Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Maroubra and etc, open park – Centennial and Moore Park, studios of some of the most popular reality show like Australian Idol and etc. Australian top 10 university – University of New South Wales (UNSW) is located here too. Kingsford is usually one of the suburb I go to eat Asian or rather Chinese food for it is cheap and good. We know that not all cheap stuff is good.
As an Asian , I like Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan (Eastern Asia), Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (South East Asia). In America, the states which I like for an instance New York, New Jersey, Michigan,Masssachusetts (East), and so happen California which is on the West of America.
If it is Europe, I am a little different. Europe is the northwestern constituent of the larger landmass Eurasia or also known as Africa – Eurasia. It has nothing to do with the East but it is something that I adore. Europe is divided to 4 regions which are Central Europe, Western Europe, Southern Europe and Northern Europe. Within these region lies a country which I really admire. Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria and Germany (Central Europe) , United Kingdom, Ireland (Northern Europe) , Greece, Italy and Spain (South Europe) , Belgium, France, and Netherlands ( Western Europe)
I used to dislike my name when I was younger especially back in junior school for teachers and friends could not pronounce it properly. During those times, I ponder on why can’t my name be Sarah, Jennifer, Rachael which is common and easy on the tongue. But now I am grateful for my name, as there are not many Asian with this name and it is my official name printed on any International and National document. Thank You to my late maternal grandfather – Mr Freddie Seow Teck Swee for blessing with the name. A significant name . . Indeed !
