Monthly Archives: December 2007

Since Christmas until now, I have been battling with flu, watery eyes and fever. It’s so annoying when it is the summer when everyone is out enjoying. I do enjoy and half way through my eyes will be watery and i will rushing for tissue paper. So annoying and inconvenience. Maybe some of the blame is to be on the weather. A couple of days is cloudy and windy and the next days in sunny. I don’t need to tell people that I am sick but my face can tell people that I am sick. Stay away from me. I hope to be well by 31 December to see the World Famous Fire Works from either Harbour Bridge or Darling Harbour.

I don’t know what got me to post about Malaysia Airlines. Let me tell you what happen. This morning as I was cheking my email, World Perk (Flying Loyalty Program of North West Airlines) send me an email about how to earn miles faster. All of a sudden I went to malaysianairliens.com and singaporeair.com to see what is latest in their loyalty program. While browsing mas.com, I recalled my happy experience flying from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney. I must say it was one of my best flying experience with them though I have been flying with them for long. Before I share my happy moments with mas, I must say something of history about my country’s national air carrier. On the 2nd February, paying passengers could be welcome onboard only after 10 years later (1937). Only 5 passengers to Kuala Lumpur. The flight takes off either from Singapore or Penang. That was with the name of Malayan Airlines Limited. Following the separation of Singapore from the Federation of Malaysia on 9 August 1965, the Singapore and Malaysia governments took over majority control from BOAC and other shareholders and the airline was renamed Malaysia – Singapore Airlines.  On 3 April 1971 the airline was split into two companies,Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airlines System. In 1972 MAS operated flights to more than 34 regional destinations and six international services. On 15 October 1987, the trading name was changed to Malaysia Airlines.

So coming back to my  recent experience with Mas (MH 123), it was something to remember, cherish. The moment I step up into the Boeing 747 – 400, something change. The only different is the flight attendance. Others was still the same but at that moment everything change. I like my seat (aisle). I always like aisle seat. I can sway my feet slightly out to the aisle walk comparing if seating on the window seat. As usual a hot towel is served followed by some drinks (refreshment) and peanuts, in flight sales, meal, drink, beverages, alcohol, ice cream kit kat, collection of cutleries and drinks . . followed by a long pause for passengers to sleep and followed by meal and the same repeated routine again. During this flight, I realized that the pillow are not that fluffier comparing to the ones before and the blanket use to be bigger but now it is smaller but thicker. Thank God ! Never-the-less, it was a good companion to sleep. The passenger in front of me had his seat recline but I could not recline my seat any back due to the passenger behind who had weight in her and some bags on her lap. Fortunately, I managed to recline a little but with that little reclining, it was still comfortable to watch in flight entertainment and a sleep. The meal was good. I had fish cooked is some western style which I forgotten but all I can remember was it was good. Crispy on the outside but tender and moist on the inside. It was just the perfect In Flight Entertainment for me. I have not watch Ratatoiille. My mum bought the DVD for me to watch. She said it was a good way and movie to de – stress but time was not at my side. Indeed, I could not agree any better. I am glad that Ratatouille was in and I watch it. Watching it in some darkness during a night flight when everyone is sleeping. I have this thing when the plane is about to land. I feel wishy washy but don’t feel like nauseating. I have no problem when the plane is taking off.

So back to this morning as I was browsing the page for Northwest, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines. I decided to browse skytrax.com (The company that review all about an airlines company. I decided to write my comment on Malaysian Airlines. As a Malaysian, I am proud of my country’s national carrier is a 5 star airlines. Besides Malaysia Airlines, other airlines awarded with 5 star was Cathay Pacific, Kingfisher,Singapore Airlines, Asiana Airlines, and  Qatar Airways. I though KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines would be in but unfortunately they are only 3 star. Reading the comment for all walks of life makes me happy that my first choice for flying still belongs to Malaysia Airlines. Nice reading the comments from fellow country men, westerners, european, asian and etc. Therefore I decided to nominate Malaysia Airlines for “Worlds Best – 08″. This was what my comment was,

I would like to nominate Malaysia Airlines for “Worlds Best – 08″ as their flight attendance are friendly to the passengers and also to staff. They converse to other staff in Malaysian Language. Passengers could tell that they are patriotic to their country’s language. Their airport check – in crew is also friendly especially when it comes to baggage and seating options. In Flight Entertainment is always updated with the latest box office, comedy, drama, and tv series. The In Flight Entertainment covers most region from English to Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic, Tamil, Cantonese with a wide chosen subtitle available. The meals are good with a wide variety from Asian delicacies (rice and noodle) to Western European (Pasta). Finally, Malaysia is truly Asia and Malaysia Airlines provide the best Malaysian Hospitality.

After a long cloudy, windy, sunless summer and etc, finally it feels summer. It was a day out with him that I enjoyed. I think he enjoyed too. We went around looking for skirt (his Christmas present to me). We went to David Jones, Myer, Pitt  Street Mall and etc. I must say it was so hard to find a jeans skirt that I like. There is one white jeans material skirt that he likes but I did not. So we ignored. Went to Woolworth to get Chicken Chippies and Groceries. Gosh, It was really groceries as we bought 4 boxes of breakfast cereal, instant soups, milk, tuna(s), chocolate chip cookies, kit kat and  some home ware items and etc. We shop for clothes, shoes. Some we good but we were reluctant to buy. I told Jake that I would like to buy a self tanning cream. He was shocked. Well, I bought. I have never seen myself tan before. Together buying the tanning cream was a Palmer’s Coco Butter cream for my dry skin. While shopping, we also stop over the pedestrian walk to look at some live performances of people playing violin, cello, saxophone, didjaridoo, bottles. My heart felt sympathy goes for the kids who were playing violin saxophone and cello. They are so young. They are  hoping that with they playing their instrument entertaining pedestrian, they might get some tip. This is so children abusive. It should be illegal. Department of Children and Welfare should do something about this. We went to see how much does it cost to use an eye coloured contact lenses. It’s not that cheap after all. I would like to see myself in hazelnut and grey eyes. We were out like for about 5 hours. That’s one really good exercise on walking.

Blessed Christmas to everyone! Especially to my Mum and Dad. I miss you. Well, this year will the first year that I am celebrating Christmas without my parents. Of course it is something new but nothing like home.To all my cousin world wide , don’t worry for we carry each other regardless where we are. Chinese New Year without family is normal for me but Christmas without a family is like a loss. I am glad that this year I am celebrating Christmas with a European Family. At first it is funny but as I get used to it , it became normal to me. Before having all the fun on Christmas Eve, I had some misunderstanding with Jake about something. Later about 45 minutes, I gave him my sorry. He does not want sorry but to understand the reason. I do understand the reason now. I decided to be cheerful again because when I was in Malaysia, I wanted so badly to celebrate Christmas with him and now that I am here with him, why should I spoil but celebrate it with him. Cool, now things were back to normal as we were walking back home. Christmas eve dinner was really good. No words to express. There was chicken and kangaroo meat schnitzel with potato salad. I was the only Asian. Jake and his family are Czech and Andy who is our German friend. Kangaroo meat was really good. It was so tender. Now I know where Jake inherit his cooking skill. Of course from his mother. Ha ha . . I learned some European tradition while eating Christmas Eve’s dinner. Once the dinner is served on the table and everyone is seated. No one is allowed to move from the table unless everyone has finish eating. If someone is out from the dinner, uncertain circumstances might come. Jake needed to take Lemon but that was when he realised that he was seated. So what he did was, to hop to the kitchen with the chair. It was so funny. Once the dinner was done, we went to the Christmas tree to get our presents. Jake like his notebook ram – DDR II, while Jane (his mother) had present which she wanted really badly but she could not get it because it was pricey so Jake and I bought the Bone Art for her. John (his brother) had a boomerang. I had a mug from Jane. I love it. Jake has yet to give me a Christmas present because of the misunderstanding and by the time I was calm, shops were closed. Nevermind, I will get my present just slightly after Christmas. No present which he will give me can beat the present that he gave me yesterday night.

Happy Birthday to Uncle Nick =)

Alone in the house cleaning the hall, kitchen, dining table, my messy computer table and just enjoying the neatness, calmness, quietness of the house. This is the first time, I am falling sick on Christmas day. Maybe without my parents.  Just not myself towards the afternoon till the whole night. Lying on the bed, taking medicine, Later that night, my mum send me a text message then she is too falling sick having flu. Ha ha, how co – incidence that we both fall sick despite we are in 2 different country. I guess the best explanation to why we both fall sick is because the daughter misses the mother just as how the mother misses her daughter too. Well said !

I was a student exchange represented by Lions Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia. That was like in 1999. After many long years. Here I am in a student exchange program. I am now staying with a Czech Family. Although it is my home that they are staying but it literally feels that I am staying in their home. Celebrating Christmas with them. The reason why I feel like I am once again in a student exchange because we are like together. Personally I like to use the hall. But I am still at the hall when the whole family is around but I do his them space . I do help around at times. Like washing the dishes, preparing the table, going out with Jake to get some groceries. Went to Darling Harbour at night for a walk, Chinatown, Paddy’s Market with him and his brother. Enjoying all the meal that the mum prepared. This is my first European Christmas celebrating with a European family but unfortunately it is in a country in Asia Pacific – Australia. It was be good if it was in a European country. There was cultural things that I learn (European Culture), couple of Czech words and etc. They won’t be here for New Year’s Eve and New Year as they are going to New Zealand for holidays.

If you do not know me well, I am not the kind of person who will visit China. As the coach pass one of the highway from the airport to the city, I was not taken by the view. Rather I was just okay. It was a long okay. As we sit pass to go to the city, I was suprised to see a Gucci Boutique. I did not expect. After checking in to our hotel – Ambassador, We had a quick rest and went out to the city to check how the city is like. Wasnt the city for me to check out anything other than Gucci and Hugo Boss. My mum and I started the madness. The Gucci bag that I bought for my mum in Sydney was not available in Shenzhen. The next place that we went for City Citic Centre. Man, I was suprised with the kind of shops or rather the boutique that they have. Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Cartier, Chopard, Piaget, Salvatore Feragarramo, DKNY, Polo Ralph Lauren, Bose, Burberry, Tods and etc. I saw one really nice bag in Louis Vuitton. As I started walking people started staring at me. Male and Female. Sometimes, I feel like giving them a piece of my mind. The taxi drivers are really bad. They do not know when to use a jam break and a break. I got so frantic. They way they drive, they are looking for an accident. There are no motorcycle except bicycle and cars. They don’t have the red/green man to cross the road but they use the sub way. This got my grandma complaining as it was associated with staircase. We had KFC for lunch. Nothing like home KFC. After a long walk and shopping, we went to eat fried rice and duck. The fried rice was weird when I took the first spoon but eventually it felt good. There was nothing special about the duck, even the duck and the preparation in Sydney was better. I hope tomorrow I can seize the day well as I will be going to Disneyland – Hong Kong.

My second day of holidays was Hong Kong. We took a bus to Hong Kong. Hate immigration especially when I have just completed one and there is one more waiting. We saw Hong Kong in a few stages. When we are at the border of China – Hong Kong, the enviroment look gettho and doggy. The view was starting to change as we travel more into the city. The ride in the coach was from Hong Kong immigration to Disneyland. The journey took us about 40 minutes approximately. We pass some bridges with good architecturing and design in Lantau Island. Finally Disneyland. There is always a kid in me although I am just 23 years old. Took pictures with Goofy and Mickey. Saw Snow white castle’s, so tall Christmas tree, adventure land, fantasy garden and etc. It was so Hakuna Matata. No worries at all. I was just running here and there busy capturing picture. Had to que up to take picture with the Disney Character, enjoying the river cruise, climbing at Tarzan’s hide out spot, eating lunch – Laksa. Towards the night, it was beautifully lighted. Snow white’s castle and the Christmas tree was some of the main attraction. At 8, there was fireworks all over the castle. It was so breathe taking. I watch it using my Hologram glasses. I lost my parents because of my busyness of taking picture. I lost my parents twice. It was a good tired day to call it an end. When we reach – Dorset Seaview Hotel, Kowloon drowning myself to bed is all that I wanted to do but unfortunately, my cousin and her boyfriend are on their way to see us. Had a good chat about them. Had a nice conversation with my cousin’s boyfriend and also to her. The next day, was touring in Hong Kong City. We passed by Tsim Tsa Shui, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Golf and Jockey Club, Nathan Street, Times Square, Kowloon and etc. We went to Repulse Bay. It is a more like a sandy beach with a tourist place come temple. Aberdeen Fishing Village was great because we went for a ride in one of those baots that fisherman uses to catch fish, see how fisherman live in the boat. They are the people living in the river all year long. We went to Mid-Level Peak to see the spectacular view of Hong Kong and Bauhinia Square to see the Hong Kong view. Unfortunately it was a foggy day, so the view was not that clear. Bauhinia Square is something like Darling and Sydney Harbor. The rest was not interesting as we visited a jewellery and herbal shop. The last place in Hong Kong was the train station which will bring us to Shenzhen. The train was no doubt long – MTR. Longer than Malaysia, Singapore and Sydney. The last stop that we need to get down was LoWu. Nothing much to talk about my China tour holidays for I did not really enjoy it but more on falling sick as I had lack of water and food. Had crazy shopping and that was how I bid my goodbye to Shenzhen. Finally I reach my home and I next is to fly back home to Sydney.

When I interact with people from China and Hong Kong, they ask my age and I do not hide my age regardless it is a male or female asking. I tell them I am 23 and they could not believe for they all said that I look 18 years old. It is really nice to know that when people tell me that I look 18 from an Asian to a Asian bring me great joy.

Life after 22 to 23 is slightly to have more challenges. My father has already given me one challenge. Myself, challenging myself on when can I start to work in Europe,  when can I earn my first really good pay, slowly and gradually becoming a lady and a woman,  I think I started a lot of things after 23 or the end of my 22 years old. I finally managed to gain weight, thinking has been slightly mature. Started learning how to cook the day after my birthday. (Seriously). The previous cooking was a drag but learning how to cook with my grandmother was a joy. Learning how to chop garlic, cucumber, cooking leaves and etc. My chopping was taking time like a snail but my grandmother was just chop, hit, chop and hit . . I shall be like her one day (if I continue to cook).  I feel that as 23 years old, I embrace my feminity and womanhood more like  cooking, chopping, wearing dresses, skirts, heels, hair, dressing up(depends on where I am going to) shopping and etc .With an exception of make – up. I prefer my skin to be nude or natural.  I feel good when I embrace my gender. I was reading Cleo megazine as they were asking guys what attract you most in a girl (wering, doing and saying). One said wearing skirts and dress because that is the clothes for girls and he continued saying which guy don’t go over a girl who is wearing either one of those .  Another guy said a girl using white t – shirt and jeans feeling so comfortable. A guy said for an isntance helping a grandmother crossing the road and other comments. The next question was ” What do you see a girl sexy with”. Some said sexy in the kitchen when preparing meal or drinks, gazing at herself on a mirror, personality, characteristic,  confidience anc etc. How interesting. I think the uttermost important thing when turning a year older each year is to be yourself. Nothing like seeing oneself age and mature gracefully, Some woman that I think they still look beautiful although they are aging is Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Queen Rania of Jordan, Diane Lane, Susan Sansardom, Teri Hatcher, Men that still loook good when aging is George Clooney, Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood, John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, The Late John Lennon and Denver.
